SIGNS YOU KNOW YOU'RE HAVING A WEIRD LIFE
* You wake up singing "Ooooo Child. Things are gonna get easier."
* You wonder -in a conscious state- how you are gonna tell your parents you are pregnant with Kid Rock's baby. (One of those "all-too-real" dreams last night, but believe it or not...is the SECOND time I've had a dream like that about Kid Rock. And I don't find him the least bit attractive!)
* Snow is falling, the ground is wet, the sun is shining, and it's the warmest it's been all winter.
* Selling Pampered Chef sounds like the best job offer you've had in months.
* The UNCG Spartan baseball team is 8-0
* Can't string a sentance together
* You have a 2 week "family" visitor ;) (not that this is unusal for me...just weird in general)
* You think white socks look good with black pants and black loafers.
* You don't know what day it is (legitimately)
* You get the urge to cuddle (Pul-eaze!)
* Guinea Fowl fall out of the sky (then disappear. Haven't seen one since! :( )
* You walk around with a Spatula in your purse.
* Every minute seems like deja vu
* You keep checking your email and not getting any
* You get the urge every night to go bathing suit shopping
* You watch Urban Cowboy, get nostaglic, and want that look to come back in style (I HAD a Gilley's shirt at one time!)
* Your mere presence near the computer causes it to freeze
* You emotionally laspe about 1 year
* Songs keep appearing on the radio right after (I mean minutes) you think of them, or right when you want to hear them.
* Your mom's cat won't leave you alone
* Yoga is an appealing form of exercise and your choice for "action" on a Friday night
* You eat Pizza voluntarily (at Pizza Hut no less!)
* Lacking Proprioception...all of a sudden...causing you to keeping running into things, hitting things, or spontaneously falling down.
* You suddenly long for NASCAR, country music, and line dancing...even though you never really liked those things. (Well, except the country music)
* You suddenly become annoyed by messes (me? Can you gusy even IMAGINE how weird that is?!?!?)
So, as you can see...it's been an odd week. Kind of pensive, sad, lonely, pessimistic, content, happy, and optimistic all at the same time. Yep. Been a Weird Week. And pretty much a strange life since moving back to Jersey. Hope it turns itself around soon.
I hope you guys are all doing well. Good Luck to Michael and the Toreros in their tournament this weekend! Hopefully the tides will turn. They can pull some "W's" and UNCG can pull some "L's"! (Not that I'd intentionally wish bad on anyone...but Neil's life should not be going well. It just shouldn't. So, they need to not win another game all year. Some balance in the he gets everything/I have nothing game would be nice! :) )

How come turkeys don't fall out of the sky on the days you need them to?
Well, it wasn't a turkey, it was a Guinea Fowl. And it didn't fall out of the sky, I think it jumped out of a tree. (Doesn't "How does a Guinea Fowl get INTO a tree?" come to mind) But it did shock the heck out of me when it landed in front of my car. And apparently I shocked it causing it to spread it's wings and try to fly...which looked more like a hop with spread wings. The idea of a Guinea Fowl (I only found out WHAT it was later. I thought it was a small grey turkey at the time) suddenly dropping down in front of my car had me in near hysterics. (Well, after I swerved to miss it's dismount from the tree and subsequent hop/flying.)
So...how come Guniea Fowl don't dismount out of trees on days when you need them to? Like yesterday, when worked sucked and the reality hit me that I'm almost 28 (my dad thought my neighbor was lying when he told her his daughter (I'll talk about her later) would be 28 Sunday), working for a little more than minimum wage, at a job I don't necessarily like, with no future in moving up, single and still heartbroken - God only knows why (I certainly don't. I've had plenty of brooding time and I'm ready for rebounding or the next step or something other than sudden attacks of heartache), living at home, miserable (see above...except the home part, that's kinda nice) with no end in sight. I needed a Guinea Fowl.
Or how about this coming Saturday? We had the good fortune in 1986 (ooo...side note, watched Urban Cowboy before Trish's engagement party this past Saturday. SOOOO Jill and I growing up in Dallas! Even had the Gilley's t-shirts! :) I had the urge to go roller skating, honky tonkin', and wear hideous cowboy satin cowboy shirts! :) ) of moving into a house next door to a girl my age. Down the street, about 5 houses there was also a girl my age. My next door neighbor, Danille, Keri, and I became very good friends from 5th-8th grade. while Keri drifted in and out, Danielle and I remained close until our sophomore year in high school. I guess in the essence of good nostalgia, I get very sad when I think about all the good times we had together (and there were LOTS) b/c they eventually ended. Danielle started hanging out with guys I didn't like too much and spending all her time with them and none with me. I began athletic training and soon had no time for them. We drifted apart, but remained in touch until I left for college in '93.
I guess I have always realized what an effect on my life Danielle and her family had. Her older sister Kim greatly influenced my music taste. Her cousin Erik, I'm learning, influence my taste in men - for better and worse. I'm not sure if it was the time of life, or the time spent (nearly every day) at Danielle's house, that taught me so much and introduced me to so many things. We would talk about the guys we liked, hung out with an older crowd and knew the same people, we would share our dreams for the future (even if it was immediate and mostly boy crazy) and figured we'd always be togetherIt's difficult to feel you knew someone better than anyone else in the world and now know hardly anything about them at all. It is this sad thought, along with all the old memories that flood my mind everytime I see Danielle.
Saturday, Danielle gets married. In a weird, t.v. movie moment I will be stepping back to a time when I was 13. Surrounded by people I haven't seen in 10-14 years, who have all stayed in touch. I'll be the outsider looking in. This might be easier if I felt I'd evolved, but many days I feel as if I am 13 again. A part-time job, living at home, no real male interest to speak of...in fact, there are alot of days I'm surprised when I wake up I'm not a Freshman in high school again, oversleeping, and finding out that the last 13 years were all a dream. And, knowing me as I do, driving home from the reception with my parents...I'm gonna need a Guinea Fowl to fall from the sky.
There are a few people right now, for whom I'd crawl into a tree with a flock full of foul: Steve Bechler's wife, my boss's brother (who lost his 20 year old son in a horrible car accident/fire), and Michael (they've GOTTA start winning soon).
I can think of alot more moments in MY life - when Neil gets engaged, when my grandparents pass away, when Trish or my sister (not to mention me) have kids, or at each of our weddings - when the sky better have ALOT of Guinea Fowl for the dropping. You see, into every life a little "fowl" must fall. Just the little reminder that no matter how prepared we think we are for something, things happen we could never expect. Or a little unexpected laugh, when we need it most to remind us we are loved and watched. Or that maybe when we are most "down" and think there is no hope, the unexpected could happen (or NEVER expected could happen).
So, keep your eyes open for the raining of Guinea Fowl. Rumor has it, there's alot of them out there!

As Carrie said in the first ever Sex and the City: "Welcome to the age of un-innocence. No one has breakfast at Tiffany's and no one has affairs to remember."
Apparently, you can live this lifestyle if you sign up to be on a reality t.v. show! Evan & Zora = Happily Ever After; Trista & Ryan = Happily Ever After; Aaron & Helene = Happily Ever After...at least, they're all happy when the show ends. Then there's the public appearances, the "after" talk shows, the "oh we're in love" and "this time it's real" conversations with anyone who will listen. Then, shortly after the show airs...where's the "lovely" couple now? They've taken their money, fame, and experience and run like hell.
The union of Evan and Zora bothered me more than most. Why? It's like reading little girls fairy tales, then making sure they expect them to come true. AS I said the other day, just like Shrek, but worse writing. If you hold out for honesty, stay true to your beliefs, act naive and play hard to get, then accept another for who they are, you too will find love and $500,000. Somehow, the fairy tales should all be ruined on the fact that THESE PEOPLE AGREED TO BE ON THE SHOW IN THE FIRST PLACE!
I'm better now. :)
There was a recent article on how "young" people are too busy for "dating" anymore. Things like "8 minute dates" are popping up all over like wildfires and internet dating is on the rise. And maybe that's the reason Reality T.V. dating shows are doing so well. Our generation is holding out for finding the fantasy in 6 short weeks without having to compromise a career (most are filmed in the summer. and Evan is still a construction worker, didn't have to change anything), or change residence, or give up most anything to find and be with your perfect mate. Because, in the Age of Convienience, we want to establish ourselves and have whomever just fall in line with that. If they don't, too bad, so sad (as my dad would say) - TTFN. No compromise. And for women, it's a little ray of hope that in life, the things we hold dear, really do matter. (I mean, how many men willingly watched Joe Millionaire or The Bachelorette? O.k., how many willingly watched it without saying, "He gets to seduce 25 girls before picking one? 25 girls all throwing themselves at them? Dude! I'd go on that show!" )
Puh-leaz. Now, maybe I'm a cynic; have become jaded; whatever, but relationships are not made this way. Six Weeks? True Love? if you know my middle name by Week 4, you (as a guy) are doing pretty well. Heck, if you've made it to Week 4, you are steps ahead of 75% of men I've met! (Especially the poor sap-who's lucky to have made it past minute 2 - running around Manayunk who thinks I have 6 kids!) AND, if at any time I've known you we've "cuddled", I'm probably close to picking out china patterns! :)
Having said all that, I'd still consider myself a romantic! :) I know it doesn't seem like it, but I am. I still am waiting for a man to sweep me off my feet. (As my dad said, "Jenn, you're waiting for a white knight? That doesn't happen!") Unfort., it can't be done with candy and flowers. Every day I spent with Neil, he never ceased to amaze me. (Go ahead, you guys can say it. It amazes you all too he's such an *sshole. I know, I know, I hear it everytime I mention his name to you guys, but no matter how much I've been hurt, you'll never convince me of that.) He was so compassionate about his beliefs, wants, likes and dislikes, his job and his life. He cared about other people (yes, really. Well, maybe everyone but me). I'll never forget the day we were headed into, I think it was the grocery store. A woman was there with two little kids and a baby. Neil rushed ahead to open the door for her and help her with the stuff she was juggling. She looked at me after thanking him profusely and said, "It's hard to find such wonderful men. You should keep him." I swelled with pride, as I blushed b/c he wasn't mine to keep. And just when I thought he'd "lost" something I admired so deeply in him (mostly b/c they were where he and I were in tandem and parts of me I loved), he'd do something, however subtle, and sweep me away all over again.
Did he buy me flowers? Candy? Dinners? Presents? (O.k. don't even get me started on this one! I have a list of all the "holidays" he owes me for!) Hold open doors for me? Etc. Nope. but the little things he did, made me love him for who he was, not the things he showered me with. I fell for the little ways he showed (or at least did a great job of pretending like) he cared for me, and not grand sweeping gestures. (O.K., remembering my birthday? Acknowledging it with a present once every year-instead of once every 4 years- would have been nice, but I'm not going there.) And I find it real hard to believe that you can reach the depths of someone in six weeks! In front of millions of people, while competing with 24 other women? I think not. All you get is their best and all you give is yours. There are no drunk phone calls at 2 a.m. (or worse, 4 a.m.), no carrying them home after watching them hit on the opposite sex all night, no bad attitudes towards you after a long day at work, no getting mad over something they wanted and didn't tell you they wanted, so you didn't do, no suspicion about who they're with and what they're doing...all you get is the polish, none of the tarnish. And sometimes...rubbling through the tarnish makes the silver shine brighter.
So, since I'm still not working I was thinking about singing up to be the temptress on the "Indecent Proposal-like" reality show coming out. Or maybe the Made in America one, where you let the t.v. audience pick your mate and then you marry them. Because as Carrie said, " Welcome to the age of un-innocence. No one has breakfast at Tiffany's and no one has affairs to remember."

May I ask a question of everyone who is faithful Joe Millionaire watcher? Why Zora?
I mean, I'll put aside the fact she looks like Christy + Kristen Davis just for a second (translate, Kristen Davis AFTER she ran head first into a frying pan and "hardened"). Why is it everyone is rooting for her?
You wanna know why? Because she doesn't at all seem interested IN Evan. So far, Zora has succeeded in playing the "perfect" mouse to Evan's cat. In guy translation, she MUST be in love with him. And even if she's not, for some reason, men seem to be more interested in the chase than the catch. Once they've got her, they are at a complete loss as to what to do with her. And, once the aloofness wears off, what are they left with? A woman who plays games and manipulates to get what she wants.
Somehow, this seems wrong. Maybe I'm too honest. Somehow, the idea of hiding feelings, manipulating situations to my advantage, and playing the game to win at any cost seems wrong. And just possibly, I'll always end up, as the poor second place woman from the Bachelor, crying about how perfect we were together as I ride home in the limo, while the woman who played the game stands before her "Prince Charming" who's down on one knee vowing his love and to be there forever.
However, after spending time together Helene and Aaron broke up. Doesn't that usually happen once the games are over and the "real" people emerge? Playing games and putting up false fronts are, in my opinion, a bad way to start a relationship. So, tonight, I'll be rooting for Sarah.

13 days into February and no blog from me! How dare I! :)
Actually, I've been meaning to write for a few days, just been to lazy. Seems like the cold weather will do that to me! :( Anyway, I got a CD from a friend of Erin's the other day that runs a computer slide show of pictures of Erin (the same show shown at the memorial service), and has newspapaer articles about her, as well as lists. One of the lists was "50 Things To Do Before I Die". Maralynn said it hung on her refrigerator, but never said when it was written. Erin accomplised a good amount of that list. In the midst of all the talk of attacks on the U.S. and bioterrorism, I've been wondering if my "Things To Do Before I Die" List would ever be as "finished" as Erin's was. The imminent threat has me a bit scared that if it ended tomorrow, my list would lack highlights, or astriks noting the things I'd done.
So, I've been trying to come up with a list of things I'd want to do. When it comes right down to it, this isn't easy. I've decided that I'm too much of a realist anymore to truly be a dreamer. But, I'm trying. I'm trying to believe that the bioterrorist threats are just that and the U.S. taking on the world will prevail. In that vain, (and not the one that tells me why make a list just to die tomorrow and never accomplish anything) I've put together a partial list for you all. You'll see it again as I'm sending it as an email in the hope that everyone I send it to will do their own and then set forth the plans to accomplish some of them. So, here's mine (in no particular order):
* Swim With The Manatees (March 8th! :) )
* Learn to Speak (fluently...well, conversationally) another language
* Complete a 5k - running (Well, I'm doing the Susan G. Komen one on Mother's Day, but I doubt it'll be running)
* Positively influence a stranger's life
* MLB Baseball Stadium tour
* Drive a race car
* Skydive
* Travel to a couple Carribean Islands
* Be a redhead
* Sing on stage in front of a crowd (I have a heard time coutning Kareoke, but can't forget my Senior H.S. solo)
* Acting in a play or musical
* Balance my checkbook (to the penny...just once)
* Own a bulldog (or maybe a couple if I decide to breed them)
* Do something spontaneous
* Leap before looking (just once)
* Be photographed for a magazine (as in model, not in those "Don't" sections for dressing)
(if I specified a taseful spread in Playboy, would that be wrong? :) )
* Go to a well-publicized dressy eventl (like Inaguration Ball or Academy Awards)
* Attend Mardi Gras (2000)
* Go to Spring Training (March 6th! :) )
* Become domestically "neat"
* Vist the rain forest
* Go to Mexico for "real" mexican food (and a good pair of espadrilles!)
* Wear a size 5 (I was SO close - bought a size 6 dress for Danielle's wedding! :) :) )
* Become an "expert" on something
* Learn to change the oil in my car (filters and all)
* Get married and have children
It's a work in progress...but I hope you enjoyed it! :)
Happy Valentine's Day!

* Swim With The Manatees (March 8th! :) )
* Learn to Speak (fluently...well, conversationally) another language
* Complete a 5k - running (Well, I'm doing the Susan G. Komen one on Mother's Day, but I doubt it'll be running)
* Positively influence a stranger's life
* MLB Baseball Stadium tour
* Drive a race car
* Skydive
* Travel to a couple Carribean Islands
* Be a redhead
* Sing on stage in front of a crowd (I have a heard time coutning Kareoke, but can't forget my Senior H.S. solo)
* Acting in a play or musical
* Balance my checkbook (to the penny...just once)
* Own a bulldog (or maybe a couple if I decide to breed them)
* Do something spontaneous
* Attend Mardi Gras (2000)
* Go to Spring Training (March 6th! :) )
* Become domestically "neat"
* Vist the rain forest
* Go to Mexico for "real" mexican food (and a good pair of espadrilles!)
* Wear a size 5 (I was SO close - bought a size 6 dress for Danielle's wedding! :) :) )
* Become an "expert" on something
* Learn to change the oil in my car (filters and all)
* Get married and have children
It's a work in progress...but I hope you enjoyed it! :)
Happy Valentine's Day!
