God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Merry Christmas!!!

Well, it's been another week of ick. I finally got in to see the Dr. Friday. He told me I have a "flu-like virus" and I need to rest. Doesn't he know there's a holiday approaching?!!?!? He claims he knows. He also says I've been working too hard and stressing my little body out. I need rest. And fluids. So today, the first day of my 6 days off, I rested. I know the Good Lord rested on the 7th day, but I don't have a 7th day, so I'm gonna try for little rests here and there for 6 days! :)

Today I slept until noon, then stayed in bed until 1 reading. I figured that was a good concession to running around the rest of the day! :) I got my haircut, went to buy a gift for my roommate and finish my sister, then to the grocery store for Christmas Eve dinner. Grocery store was disappointing, so I went to mom and dad's and hung out a little, went to dinner with them and then to another grocery store to finish my shopping. Two little gifts left to buy and then I am finished! Yay!

Even got some of my baking done. All in all good. Well, gotta get to bed. Rest, you know?

So Sick

I was right. Deep down I think I knew Monday that it was coming. I got sick.

I spent Tuesday with a sinus headache I just couldn't shake, but the day was going pretty well. Bill and I were both scheduled on 12-end of practices, but he told me to go around 6pm. I headed for the door, making a quick pit stop at the Little Jenn's room. While there, it hit me...my clothes hurts. I made it to the car, met mom and dad for dinner and said "My clothes hurt". My mom was sitting next to me and said she could feel the heat radiating off my body. I promised her I'd take my temp as soon as I got home. (Not only do I have a thermometer, I knew where it was! :) ) 101.5 and eveny my nice Penguin flannel pajamas hurt. I crawled into bed shivering, took some Nyquil and off I went into deep sleeps segmented into 1 or 2 hour chunks. Before drifting off I had text messaged Bill, who told me to take the next day off and get better. Leave it to me to leave my Christmas Cards (yes, the ones I'm allergic to) at work!

9:00am I awoke feeling slightly better. PJ's didn't hurt me...always a good sign! I rolled over, called work to tell them I wouldn't be in, then laid in bed. My inner self was like a kid on a snow day. It kept throwing out all the things we could finally get done now that we didn't have to work - I could go to the grocery store, get some Christmas shopping done, walk on the treadmill, throw out those potted plants in front of the house, clean the office, rearrange my closets. The inner kid was squelched by reality when, because I was feeling good, I got up, dressed and headed to the drugstore to replenish my NyQuil and barely made it home before collapsing in a heap on the couch, exhausted. I placated him (I'm pretty sure it's a boy with TONS of energy and ADD) by eating a scoop or two of the ice cream I had bought to go with my NyQuil and Ginger Ale for breakfast. I watched Rachel Ray, played a little on the internet, fended off inner little kid pouting, slept from 11:30-2:30/3:00 ate some lunch. watched some more t.v. Some people might have felt it was a GREAT day, but I felt lethargic and icky - my throat was sore mixed with the thoughts of all the things I needed to be doing going through my head. Not restful per say, but apparently needed. It took all day, but by bedtime, my fever was only between 99 and 100. Yay!

I couldn't stand ANOTHER day home sick, so I went into work on Thursday. I figured I was in at 10, so even if I could only make it until 12 when Bill got in, I'd at least done something. The day was kind of lazy and at 5pm I trekked home to bed. I was 99.5 so I figured, cured! Only problem is the stupid emotional thing. Does anybody else get emotional when sick? I cried at Miracle when we watched it Thursday at work. I've seen the freakin' movie before. I cried thinking of the fact I'm a bad daughter for having no present for my mom. I cried thinking about all the baking I wanted to do and didn't get done. I cried for the homeless shelter girls (oh, and almost when talking to our coach to ask about a "late" date for a slacker), the kid at a neighbor high school that was killed...after today, make that 2, same high school, my sister, the hallmark commercials...you name it, it makes me teary. I HATE that!

The weekend was a long one. I'm still feeling terribly void of energy and could've spent all day today curled up in bed. However, the 11 year old girls whose ages I picked off the tree from the Shelter where our kids spend Christmas Friday (21st) playing santa and feeding the homeless, still needed gifts. They were due in on Friday, but the Girls' Basketball coach is in charge and told me I could get them to him on Monday. I celebrated my mother's birthday yesterday and, for the first time in years, without having a present for her. I felt like such a slacker. She didn't care, but I was beside myself. Since I lost Wednesday (when I wasn't supposed to be at work until late afternoon) to a sick day, and Thursday and Friday to sleeping in to recover and work, and Saturday morning to working, I didn't get to shop for any of it. So, I drug myself out of bed this morning and off to shop. My throat is better, I can swallow without pain, I have developed a slight cough and still have the energy of a sloth. No rest for the weary this week as Bill is in Disney with his family until Wednesday, so Ive got work til 8pm tomorrow and BBkt Games til 10pm on Tuesday. Hopefully, I can sleep in enough in the mornings to speed the stupid ick on its way out of my body. But crap....isn't there a holiday coming up? Guess I need to shop for that too! Maybe NEXT weekend! :) :)

Hope ya'll're doing better than I. Stay warm, dry and out of the freakin wind (it's up to 40 mph, supposed to top 55mph tonight!)!!! Love ya'll!

"I'm A Cranky Old Yank In A Clanky Old Tank"

Hi All!

I changed my Board name to a song title and am going to try and label every post accordingly. I'll put the artist at the end of my post. You guys know how I like to go on whims...so we'll see how long this one lasts.

Today I'm just tired and irritable. The day started o.k. I got up early-ish, showered and went to pick up the postcards I had made. I didn't have many of them made, so some of you will get made and some of you will get Hallmark. When you care enough.... :) :) They turned out GREAT! I was a little worried because they were cheap compared to other places. Put them in the car, ran home to get my address book so I could address cards at work and this is where the day went into the toliet.

Just call me Susan Ross, because I think I was/am allergic to the Christmas Cards. On the 20 or so mintue drive to work I began sneezing uncontrollable and I could feel my eyes swelling shut. I pulled over to actually get out of the car and get some air and hope the allergy attack went away. Oh, did I mention I pulled over at a Starbucks? I went the alternate way to work so I could pass the cheap gas station. Cheap gas went awry (see below) and the allergy attack cuminated RIGHT near the Starbucks! :) Just an added Peppermint Latte bonus! :) I continued my drive to work with no heater ('cuz maybe it was really that, although it hasn't bothered me any other time than today) and the windows open. The only OTHER thing in my car besides the cards was Jill's microwave, but I'd had no problems driving home with it in the car Sunday night.

I tried to stop for gas, but the cheap-gas gas station was packed. The station near my house wasn't bad, but I thought I could do better at the cheap-gas station so I passed the close one by. I kept heading to work but the prices just kept going up. The WaWa gas near work had me paying 10 cents more per gallon than the one near my house, but I was desperate and now annoyed as I pulled in to fill up.

The 3 major concerns in my life presently are 1) That I just barely have enough money to get by each month and this is not putting anything aside for the summer. When I sit down and work out the numbers, I should have enough money to not only eat, but to have the occasional Starbucks and then some. I am totally perplexed over the money and live every minute scared to death of not being able to pay my bills each month. 2) My car is 6000 miles over for the year on the lease and I'm not doing an exorbanant amount of driving. Unless I can find a way to knock miles off my commute each day or driving per year I'm gonna end up paying MASSIVE amounts in overage. (See #1 concern) 3) The heating/electric bill was almost $300 this month and if I did the math right, we are on track for double that next month. (See#1 concern) So I walk around hearing the meter move in my head and HATE turning on the lights every day. This SUCKS because I had a special outlet put in outside when I moved in JUST so I could hang Christmas lights....which I did, but I can't plug them in because (see #1 and #3). These things are what pretty much is occupying my time. Sooo, in an effort to save both gas AND miles, I tried taking the back way from the gas station (3 blocks up and one block over) from my office and ended up getting lost and going 4 or 5 miles out of my way. Pretty scenery. Sucky, tense and irritable me. Oh, and the allergen in the car? STILL THERE!

Got to work, pretty ticked off and feeling just the under-the-surface annoyed that makes one extremembly cranky. Had people pulling me in 6 different directions AS I WAS GOING TO SWIPE IN and realized, today was pretty much gonna suck! The day DID get better, but I didn't. I'm wiped out. For those with allergies or asthma, you get it. You know the wiped out, totally spent feeling I experienced the rest of the day. For those of you who don't, think about a time where you cried and cried - hysterically sobbing (and doing the crying Eddie Murphy talks about in either Raw or Delirious - I always watch them together, so they blend in my head as one big routine). Now, remember how you felt afterward? THAT'S the feeling! I came home and decorated my little tree which should've made me happy, but then I can't turn on the freakin' lights! (Well, I DID turn off all the lights in the house and ate dinner by the light of the Christmas Tree, but I started falling asleep in my Mac and Cheese, so the lights went off and the big ones went back on.)

So, today you pretty much could tell me "look at the fact ___________" (like Christmas is coming or that I have a roof over my head and family and friends who love me) and I could tell you 16 reasons why that fact sucks! :) Good thing I'm alone, sitting here typing this. Not too good a company today. Almost makes me wonder if the 2 days spent at mom and dad's with heat and Dad's cold, plus the weather, plus the no heat in my house have me breaking down and getting a cold. Maybe that's better than just being a miserable grinchy person! :)

I'm off to do what I've wanted to do pretty much al day. I'm gonna put on my warm flannel penguin pjs, crawl into my bed and tell the day to go on without me.

Bah...Humbug?

Hey Friends!

Well, it's Friday. I can finally without reservation say TGIF!!! I have the next 2 days off with nothing to do and nowhere to go. There is PLENTY to be done, its just about starting it. I have been in late alot of the mornings this week and I took advantage. I shopped a little, did some yardwork, cleaned, rearranged and organized alot! It's not perfect, but it's a start.

I've been feeling a little Christmas conflicted. Once again I HATE HATE HATE that stores have been decorating since before Halloween. I think November is too early to begin the 48 zillion hours of non-stop Christmas music. Humbug! Bill has been playing Christmas movies every day (at least 2 movies a day) since the Friday after Thanksgiving. I've already seen Miracle on 34th Street (which I used to like) 10 times. I've also seen Jim Carrey's Grinch 5 times, Elf once, Muppets Christmas once, Charlie Brown Christmas once, Shrek the Third and the cartoon Grinch once. If he doesn't have movies on, it's the music. I keep telling our kids I'm Christmas'd out.

The only problem is, I'm feeling genuinely Christmas-y. I see Christmas lights on houses, my decorations and even the ones in the stores and get all warm and fuzzy. I have been walking around with an overflowing amount of love and the realization that I'm blessed beyond belief. I want to bake and give presents and help those less fortunate. I keep thinking about all the charities I could help. I'm sure they need help and I have the overflowing need to do it. It is at that moment I run into the same realization I hit with the bulldog. I am poor and I have no time. I'm not sure what I could give, given those two things. It's times like these I lament being poor. I want to give something significant to those who are not as blessed as myself. Ok, even NOT significant, but let's face it, I dream big. I dream often of being able to make one of those "blew them away" monetary gifts to multiple charities that could make a difference to SO many people. I am poor and have no time. Have I mentioned this already? I need to keep reminding myself or I could fall victim to myself. I will donate beyond my means and end up in a cold dark house (or worse, no house at all).

Speaking of dreaming, does anyone think it's an issue that 3 or 4 times in the last few weeks I've dreamt I was pregnant? Last night, I miscarried. In none of the other dreams did I actually GIVE birth, I was just in the announcing phase (surprisingly with a 5 mo. belly). Let me reassure you all, pregnancy isn't an option, nor able to be reality AT ALL...but it's still weird.

Alright, off to bed. Pleasant dreams! :)

Working In A Coal Mine

OOOUUUUCCCH!!!! I've been so busy running around today. This is the first time I've sat down and OOOUUUCCCH! :)

Last night I was feeling productive. I cleaned stuff out of the "office" and moved it into the family room so I could take it upstairs this morning. I set my alarm, got up early and was surprised to see my roommate was still home. She took the day off to finish a paper she's been trying to work on. So, I scrapped the "inside the house" stuff, bundled up and trudged outside to get to work on the leaves stacking up outside. Luckily for me, the big tree that sheds is in my neighbors' yard and only sheds on one side (for the most part) of my front lawn. Scrapping the backyard as "not important", I set to work on the front. Looks pretty good if I do say so myself. :)

Work was good, a little busy from all of the kids who tried out for Basketball all weekend (and the lapse of blogging is due to spending the weekend - all 3 days at work) and were sore, sore, sore. Otherwise, not too much, but I ran around getting things in line there - turning in my hours and overtime, getting a new work key, since mine decided to not work and what good is a key if it doesn't open anything, and checking on kids.

I got home to a quiet house, so I set my stuff down and took all the boxes, rubbermade containers and 1 A/C unit upstairs to the spare bedroom. Sitting down for dinner was NOT Good! My poor hamstrings and gluteals (umm...my butt hurts! :) ) are screaming for mercy! :) I think I'll have to give it to them. Just using them long enough to trudge to the kitchen for some rice pudding, then trudge to bed (at some point)! I should sleep well tonight.

Gotta get up early and start on the rest of the list! :)

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Sooooo, my boys went down in a terribly hard to watch fight against our rivals 21-7. At least we scored near the end to make it respectable. I will miss them, but no time to mourn as Basketball and Wrestling kick off at 7:30am. The weekend is chaos, but it's only 3 days and I AM making money. Just counting down the hours. I hope you guys do some shopping for me. :)

Alright, I'm off to move my laundry. I'll be back after the weekend is over. Have a good one everyone!

To Sleep Perchance to Dream

Haven't been sleeping real well. I think I'm still having trouble figuring out which side of the bed to sleep on. It's weird when you LOVE to sleep, LOVE your bed and suddenly aren't fond of either. I keep rearranging pillows, swithcing sides of the bed, rolling and moving and changing for hours at night. I finally do fall asleep and then, don't want to wake up.

For the last 3 weeks or so my belly has been a mess. It feels like a balloon that you know you are overfilling, but just keep filling to see how far you can push it. Only problem is, I'm not feeding it alot, it's not matter what I eat or how little of it, my belly immediately inflates. SOOO not fun!

These two things have made me a little irritable I think. I don't think I'm outwardly irritable, but I don't feel like myself. I think for the last few months I've been waiting for the day when I wake up and feel like my old self. I'm not doing it justice in terms of explanation, but I know what I mean! :) I feel out of sorts, like something is off and am waiting for it to right itself.

Tonight I'm spending some down time watching the Dog show. I like the dog show. They dogs are so cute, but when they poke and prod and move them around I keep thinking "why don't you just let them be dogs?!?!" They need to...awww...basset hound with LOTS of wrinkles! :) He's ADORABLE!!!!!!! O.k. um where was I? Oh yeah, I'd love to judge them on how "dog" they are. Do they chase things? Like Fire Hydrants? Dig in the dirt? Chew socks? Now THAT would be a GREAT dog show to watch! :)

In the same vein, today we had a girls soccer player who was pretty much told by her ODP (club/township team) coach that she shouldn't play in the high school STATE FINAL game on Saturday beause she needs to be able to play all week from Sunday on in Florida where they are going for a tournament/clinic. The girl already has a commitment to college and is a Junior in high school. I've never seen a girl's face light up quite the way I did when she was talking about ACTUALLY getting to go to our Homecoming Dance now that she had put her Florida trip off ONE DAY beause of the State Finals. She was in tears and on the verge of an ulcer at the rock and a hard place this coach had put her in. Why can't we let teenagers in sport just be teenagers? She has worked so hard her whole life to train for making it to the elite in Girls' Soccer. She has made it! Why not let her enjoy being a high school girl for at least a day. I was heartbroken looking at her today because no 16 y.o. should be tug-of-war'd like that.

Alright, off for the Bulldog group! :) Night Night my little ones! :)

States and more...

Wuzzup People! :)

So, tonight I trekked an hour from here to Neptune NJ for a Girls' State Semi-Final soccer game. I made the trek with our Athletic Director, Assistant Principal of Discipline (and former Assistant Athletic Director) and our new Principal. I like our new Principal and have been rooting for him, despite never having had much interaction with him. He's young (apparently my age, although I look younger! :) ) and into sports. He also seems to try talking to me, but I'm usually focused on the game or injuries. I wanted just to let him know I was not a "stick-in-the-mud" person. We're on the way up and I start talking to him about differences in schools, etc. He has worked at two of our other district high school, one being my alma mater. When we covered this, he asked me when I graduated. He started mentioning names of guys who were a year ahead of us that he played football with at Rowan. (Trish - if you see this, Nicky G, DiBart and Daly.) Strange throwback into memory lane for me and in a weird way I think a "this girl's got layers" point for me with our new principal.

On the way home in talking about the game I made an inside joke reference to our girls coaches. I am SO afraid he took it as a serious dislike of them. I tried to explain and after some conversation on this let him know I really DID like them. Thing of it is, the joking comment I would've made to their faces and they would've known it was out of love and picked on me back. They are a group of my favorite coaches and we have a great relationship. Now, maybe I've spent too much time in high school around high school students, but I almost worry it get back to our coaches as an I don't like them and it matters to me what they think. I know, I'm a girl. Sue me!

I'm in late tomorrow, so I may just putz around the house being a slug. Maybe I'll make cookies and take them to school or something else homemakerish. I've been channeling Barbara Billingsly lately and haven't the slightest idea why. Guess it's winter and I feel I should nest?

Weight Watchers is going, but I'm slacker majorly on that too. I'm hungry alot and I don't get NEARLY enough points a day! :)

We had a deer in our school today. Apparently around midnight this 8-point buck jumped 5 feet and smashed through a window into the cafeteria in our school. It was trapped there, bleeding and ramming things until 6am, when a VERY startled Cafeteria worker came in to get things ready, opened a door and the deer, on hind legs, stood straight up to greet her. He ran around frantically for awhile until she unlocked the glass door and then it ran out. It was apparently not hurt enough to not be able to escape. Here's hoping he lives a long life after that! He was the talk of school today and I'm sure had MUCH to relay to his deer friends! :)

Alright, Mugsy (the Webkin Bulldog mom bought me to help me with baby step commitments) and I are off to bed. Hope ya'll're well. G'night.

Sentimental Feelin'

Hi All!

Well it's been a loooong time since I've written in here, but I've been feeling sentimental and philosophical so I thought I'd start again. Maybe writing will clear my head and allow me to sleep peacefully.

I've been feeling pretty sad about the bulldog-that-wasn't. For those just joining my moping, I filled out an application to "rescue" a bulldog a few months ago. The rescue contacted me two weeks ago (or maybe it was only one) and had a dog for me. Total anxiety attack. I was stomach in knots, unable to breathe for hours after thinking about it. I've been so excited for a bulldog and now that it was here, I totally flaked. After a Thursday night, post-weigh-in Friendly's dinner with mom melt down, I told the rescue that between my hours working and finances, I wasn't sure I would be a good home now. I still hope I did the right thing and have been mourning the "loss" of my bulldog since. My mom (sweetheart that she is) bought me a Webkins Bulldog to practice baby steps toward commitment and caretaking. It's not the same for various lonely single girl reasons too pathetic to write here.

In all my moping, I finally have some downtime to catch up with friends. Bill (our Head ATC) has been going to Michigan to watch his daughter play Field Hockey for Central Michigan. This left me with no weekends off since August until November 3rd. The constant working has left me a bit out of pocket. My head emerged to find one friend whose grandmother passed away and another whose caretaking of her father has increased the marital discourse in her life. It's a small reminder of how minute and "stupid" my "woe-is-me no bulldog" moping has been. Although it didn't alleviate it, it is a reminder of how much worse things could be in life.

I am greatly looking forward to Katie-sitting in December (although, Aim, after reading today's blog...maybe I shouldn't be so excited! :) :) ). My schedule has fallen in line with no all-day wrestling matches, so now it's just planning things to do with my little friend, Kaitlyn. :)

I will TRY to write here more often. Even if I am not around, you all are thought of by me often. (Especially on those days I'd like to run away to an island with friends or go back to specific fun, bar-hopping light-hearted moments!) I am off to Girls' Soccer State Semi-Finals in Central New Jersey tomorrow. Wish us luck. Both the Girls' and I have worked our butts off this year to go this far and I'd LOVE to see them win the States!
