Spring Is Here! You know how I know? The Flyers are losing, the Phillies are getting shylacked, and my UNCG baseball team lost to A&T for the first time since 1991 and it's all my fault!

I'm sure none of you knew I had this power. So, I must apologize to the Flyers, Phillies, and my Spartans. I'm just not trying hard enough. Last night, I forgot the Flyers were playing and by the time mom turned them on, they were down 2-0. I just wasn't thinking. Then, we switched over to the Phils game while I was on the computer and THEY were down 10-2. But the one I want most to apologize to (and where most of my power lies, due to the close ties) is Mike and the Spartans for letting them down.

So, Mike, I'm sorry I moved. I'm not sure if my seat is empty or full during games, but I know I'm not in it. I'm not there during infield to get set up and rechannel my energy to the field before the game starts. Since I'm here, I'm not intently focused on the players, their performance, and winning as I once was. (Although I do usually remember you have a game and who you're playing.) It's harder to channel my "power" through all these miles. I can't yell at the players so they hear me and do better, like I can with the guys on t.v., or when I'm there in person. And, I haven't been wearing my UNCG Baseball shirt on days you play. You see, where the Spartan are concerned..."The two sides of my brain are confused." Yes, I want you to win. But there are certain people/person who is happy when you win. See the conflict?

Others have this power too. Men know all about this power (not to be sexist, they just take it more serious than we do). It's the reason they intently focus on "their team" and yell and scream at the t.v. on game days. It's why they have friends, so they can sit around and plan coaching strategies to yell at the t.v. on game day. ("I told you not to put him in." "What are you doing? You know he can't catch the ball!") They hate interruptions and CAN'T understand why "the other people" don't understand THEIR TEAM NEEDS THEM!

In our house we are beginning to feel the Flyers are a lost cause. No matter how much we yell, discuss the game and our strategic coaching decisions, they don't listen. Bill Barber does. (Once again, Billy Idol gets it.) But the players do not. As for the Spartans, well, I'm not sure there's anything I can do from here. I hate to do this, but I'll have to leave it up to you guys to handle on your own. I'll still think of you and ssend my wishes your way, but now I've got 2 other teams closer to home to work on.

I'm sure you guys are thinking. But, hey, what if they win without you? I can understand it LOOKS that way...but...they are actually winning FOR me/us. They realize we cannot be there for what must be a VERY good reason and they "win one for the Gipper". So, if we tune in halfway through and they're winning, we must quickly turn off the t.v. before they realize we are there and mess up the whole thing! These are the things we do "for the good of the team".

Well, I gotta go now. I'm leaving for the weekend and I've got to get things situated. The Phillies Troll doll does on top of the t.v. with the red and blue candles (I always have candles, the colors change with the season or holiday...it's not some cult worship alter. :) ), the UNCG Baseball shirt will go on my bed, and my Flyers Fleece will get thrown in the car with me. No breathing like the lizards of the Galapagos islands with my eyelids, no garter belts with roses in the front, and no Myan indians. I would never do anything crazy like that...just good old fashioned fan support! :)

Here's the quote of the day (well, weekend, since I won't be around):

"There are 108 beads on a Catholic rosary and 108 stitches on a baseball. When I heard that, I gave Jesus a chance. But, it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me."

Have a Good Weekend Everyone! Go TEAMS! YEA TEAMS!
